Elopement guide

The best places to elope in Cornwall

I'm based in Penzance and these are places I've photographed couples. Cliffs, harbours, a castle and one very famous island — all in the far west.

A quick practical note: in England the legal part of a wedding needs to take place at an approved venue or register office, with two witnesses. Many couples do the legal bit simply, then head somewhere wild for vows and photos. I'm happy to help you plan that.

Couple walking the Zennor clifftops in Cornwall

01

Zennor clifftops

Wild, open and properly Cornish. Granite, heather and the Atlantic in every direction. Bring a jacket — the wind here has opinions.

Couple on the beach with St Michael's Mount behind them

02

St Michael's Mount, Marazion

The view everyone knows, five minutes from my door. The beach at Marazion works beautifully at either end of the day, and the tide changes the scene every hour.

Porthcurno cliffs and turquoise sea in west Cornwall

03

Porthcurno

White sand, turquoise water and dramatic cliffs near Land's End. Glorious on a calm day; go early or late to have it more to yourselves.

Couple by Porthleven harbour in Cornwall

04

Porthleven harbour

A working harbour town with stone quays, good pubs and somewhere to eat afterwards. Ideal if you want a bit of life around you rather than a remote cliff.

Elopement at Pengersick Castle near Praa Sands

05

Pengersick Castle, Praa Sands

A Tudor castle a short walk from the beach. Somewhere to hold the legal ceremony itself, with the sea close by for photos afterwards.

Couple on the coast near Penzance

Penzance coast

My home patch. Promenade, coves and harbour within a few minutes of each other — easy, unfussy and still very Cornish.

Not sure where to go?

Tell me what you like — wild, cosy, sandy, near a pub — and I'll suggest a spot that suits.
