Kyle and Shanna's wedding at Chycara, Cornwall
A warm, loud, happy day at Chycara — ties being fixed, confetti, a camper van and a dance floor nobody wanted to leave.
Chycara is one of those Cornish places that does the work for you. Gardens, trees, water, a wooden gazebo and enough room for everyone to spread out and be themselves. Kyle and Shanna filled it.
The morning was the usual happy chaos. A small boy helping with buttons, a tie being straightened, lads walking up the path in navy suits trying to look serious and failing. Upstairs, hair and makeup, the dress, the bouquet, and that quiet moment in the doorway before anyone sees you.
The ceremony was in the gazebo with the chairs out on the grass. Rings, a few tears, a lot of laughing at the signing table. Then confetti, thrown properly, by people who had clearly been saving it up.
Afterwards we took twenty minutes in the woodland for the two of them, which is usually all I need. A camper van, a bottle of fizz, a group photo on the drive with everyone squeezed in. Speeches that made the room go quiet and then very loud again.
By the evening it was fairy lights and a dance floor, and the pictures from that part of the day are my favourites. Nothing posed, nobody looking at me.
The whole day felt like the pair of them: friendly, funny, not remotely precious about any of it. Here's to you both.
Planning a Cornwall wedding or elopement? I’d love to hear about it.
