A Creative Exchange: A Day with Mel from Alchemy Tiles
A Photography Adventure and a Trade Well Done
Hello, fellow creatives and art enthusiasts! I recently had the pleasure of visiting my friend Mel, the mastermind behind Alchemy Tiles, whom I met at the Cornwall Homeshow.
For those of you who are not familiar with Mel's work, she is a self-taught artist based on the beautiful Helford River near Falmouth in Cornwall. Mel is the creator of Alchemy Tiles, a line of bespoke handmade tiles that combine ancient techniques with modern design sensibilities. Her work is a testament to her passion for clay, poetry, and philosophy, and she is one of the few artists in the UK still using the 13th-century hand carving and inlay method.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to hang out at Mel's studio, where I was able to capture the magic of her creative process through my lens. Watching her work her magic on each tile was nothing short of inspiring, as she skillfully combined inspiring images and words with her unique artistic touch.
As a photographer, being able to document Mel's work and her creative process was a true honor. It was a beautiful exchange of services, as I got to experience the beauty of her art up close and personal, while she received a collection of photographs that showcased her work and studio in the best light.
Our collaboration was a trade well done, and it left me with a newfound appreciation for the art of handmade tiles and the dedication that goes into each piece. It was a wonderful reminder of the power of creative exchanges and the importance of supporting local artists and artisans.
So, if you ever find yourself in Cornwall, be sure to visit Mel's studio and witness the magic of Alchemy Tiles for yourself. And who knows, you might just find yourself inspired to embark on your own creative exchange.
Until next time, keep creating and supporting local artists!
